your support as a ‘foster from afar’ will help change this sato’s life forever.

We rescued this adorable Pomeranian mix in Ceiba during the summer of 2018. It was a very challenging mission in a community that had been devastated by Hurricane Maria in 2017. A year after the storm, many houses were still in disrepair, with only blue tarps as roofs and no running water. A group of neighbors had been feeding a small pack of stray dogs, sharing what little they had, whenever they could. Sadly, without spaying/neutering, the pack kept reproducing and growing in numbers. Many of them were also suffering from disease and at constant risk of car accidents. This community asked for our help and we immediately stepped in. We rescued 14 dogs in one day and went back again as soon as we had space for more. We vetted them to our high standards and found all of them loving homes within a few months, except for Yzma. At the time of her rescue, Yzma was a mother to a litter of newborn puppies. She was a wonderful mom and took great care of her babies. However, she did not trust us. She had lived her whole life on the street and witnessed the atrocities that humans were capable of. We take behavioral issues just as seriously as medical ones, so Yzma lived with our trainer in Puerto Rico for two years.
She slowly gained confidence and in April of 2021, we decided that she was ready for her next step. Yzma took her Freedom Flight!
Yzma is currently staying with a wonderful foster family in Brooklyn while she continues to work on her rehabilitation and adjusts to her new life. Yzma is officially available for adoption; however, she is still very shy so it is likely going to take awhile for her to find that perfect family. In the meantime though, she would love some support from afar along her journey toward rehabilitation.
In exchange for any gift of $24 or more, you’ll receive a link to download a special digital postcard and a printable card. You can print the postcard for yourself to show off your foster dog or give the greeting card to a loved one as a gift to let them know that a grateful sato was fostered in their honor. We’ll also keep you in the loop of Yzma’s progress. Just like an in-person foster, you’ll be one of the first to know when she finally completes her recovery and finally finds the family of her dreams.
If you prefer to pay via check, please make payable to The Sato Project and mail to 130 Water St. Brooklyn, NY 11201. Thank you!
