The Sato Project is very proud of every one of the 6,000+ satos we have rescued from the streets and placed in loving forever homes. Our work would not be possible without the thousands of families who have opened up their hearts and homes to our Puerto Rican treasures. Would you like to welcome a sato into your life? We would be happy to help you find your new family member!

There are two ways to adopt a sato. Most of our dogs are adopted through our direct adoption process. We also occasionally send dogs to one of our trusted shelter partners on the mainland.

DIRECT ADOPTION

Do you live on the East Coast? Are you willing to drive to the NJ/NY area to pick up your new family member? If so, you are eligible to adopt directly from The Sato Project. Each one of our rescues are thoroughly vetted, spayed/neutered, and our adoption team puts great care into matching each dog with the best family fitting to their unique personality and needs. Because of this thorough process, our dogs have a 99% success rate when placed with their forever families.

MAINLAND SHELTER PLACEMENT

The Sato Project is determined to save as many lives as we can. In addition to adopting dogs out directly, we also often entrust our dogs to the care of shelter partners on the mainland. When we secure a plane for one of our Freedom Flights, we want to make sure we fill it with as many animals as will fit. Partnering with trusted shelters allows us to fly more dogs off the island at once and give even more families the chance to adopt a sato. Through these partnerships we have sent satos directly to Florida, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island, Maine, and more.  See below for a list of most recent shelter partners or be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. During every Freedom Flight, we announce on social media which shelters will be receiving some of our lucky sato travelers.

Animal Haven (New York, NY)
Animal Refuge League of Portland (Portland, Maine)
Bideawee (New York, NY)
Brandywine Valley SPCA (West Chester, PA)
