Tony the Tiger
Tony is now adopted and happily in his forever home. Thank you to all of his Foster From Afar donors for helping us change her life forever.
This poor sato was hit by a car in early September 2022 and then was somehow able to make it to a hiding spot underneath a house. People saw it happen, offered him food, and posted him on social media. He was left there, unable to move from his injuries for over 6 hours. Finally, someone reached out to us, and our volunteer, Char, was able to jump in her car and get him.
When we first brought him in, he was unable to walk and must have been in pain, but his tail was still wagging. It was clear that he wanted to fight for the life he deserves. So we fought for him, too.
Because he had a broken femur and fractured bones, we brought him to CEVET in San Juan, Puerto Rico to see an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Mongil spent hours carefully placing screws and plates into his hind leg, and formed a cast around his front leg. Though we were hopeful the surgery was successful, he never ended up putting weight on his hind leg and when he continued to limp, we wanted to get a second opinion.
He flew to New Jersey in February 2023 and is stayed with an incredible medical foster, Loren, who adopted another one of our satos, Roosevelt, who had a leg amputated after being run over by a car. Tony had an appointment at Oradell Animal Hospital. After the surgeon examined his x-rays, he discovered that his leg never healed properly and he lost muscle mass around the joints. Tony’s left hind leg is also shorter than the others causing a higher risk of injuring it again. With a compassionate and sincere tone, the surgeon recommended that his hind leg be amputated. It's never an easy decision, but sometimes it's the best option.
We never gave up and thanks to our supporters, Tony the Tiger had a successful surgery. He continued to recover well from his surgery and is now back to his normal, high-energy self. Removing his injured leg seemed to have lifted his spirits even higher. And we have some more great news to share about Tony the Tiger.
He has finally been adopted and is now living with a wonderful family, including a sato sibling Makalu! They were really excited to bring Tony into his forever home. As the family was awaiting his arrival, they reached out to us and said, “We’re all ready for him. Crate is ready, Makalu has been testing it out daily to make sure it’s comfortable, food is ordered, plenty of treats ready, and some new toys!”
Tony really couldn’t have been placed in a better home. He has been through such a long journey with us and we are so happy that he is able to settle into his permanent space at last.
Tony has found all the toys in the apartment and loves his new brother. His family is so loving and we are happy for the family and for Tony!
