Roosevelt

Roosevelt took his Freedom Flight on July 5th, 2020. Thank you to all of his Foster From Afar donors for helping us change his life forever.

Roosevelt was part of the pack of dogs we rescued from the shuttered naval base in Ceiba. They had banded together for protection, but sadly could not protect Roosevelt from being hit by a car and left to die. When we came upon him, he was suffering on the side of the road. One back leg was badly broken, the other had deep lacerations. Moreover, this poor pup was covered in bite wounds; other feral dogs had sensed his weakness and attacked him. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was immediately hospitalized and had his two damaged legs wrapped in bandages. We had hoped that splinting his broken leg would have healed it, but he was hopping around, refusing to use it. Our orthopedic specialist confirmed our fears – the leg was beyond repair and needed to be amputated. Roosevelt underwent surgery like a champ and adjusted to his new life as a tripod even better than we anticipated. Only a few days later, he was already playing with other dogs and happily chewing his favorite toys.

Roosevelt was able to make the long journey to recovery thanks to your support, and is now enjoying the luxuries of his new life in NJ. Not everyone is up to the challenge of adopting a tripod, but Roosevelts new family didn’t think twice. They fell for his soulful eyes and big smile. After their beloved dog of 15 years passed away, their house hadn’t felt the same. As soon as they saw Roosevelt, they knew he would make their home feel whole again. After everything he has been through, Roosevelt is finally getting to live the life of a sato king – just as he deserves.
