Peanut Butter, or PB for short, was rescued in January of 2019. He was abandoned when he was just weeks old outside a development in Cataño. People walked past him day and night until we spotted him and scooped him up. He was a tiny, skinny puppy but so happy and playful. We knew he would get adopted ASAP.

But his bloodwork was concerning. Even though he was not symptomatic, his levels were indicating that he was in renal failure. Sadly, leptospirosis is rampant in Puerto Rico and our vet believes that he drank contaminated water as a baby which damaged his kidneys beyond repair. We tried numerous treatments but there is no quick fix and PB has been requiring regular IV fluids once a week.

Peanut Butter lived in Puerto Rico for two years so we could give him the care he needed. However, in April 2021, we decided that Peanut Butter was ready for his next big step, where he could have access to more specialized care. PB took his Freedom Flight to the mainland and has been staying with a wonderful foster family in New York while he continues his treatment.

In the meantime, PB would love your support covering his many vet visits. Through our Foster From Afar program, you can help us continue to provide Peanut Butter with his life-saving treatment. 

In exchange for any gift of $24 or more, you’ll receive a special digital postcard. You can print it for yourself to show off your foster dog or give it to a loved one as a gift to let them know that a grateful sato was fostered in their honor. We’ll also keep you in the loop of Peanut Butter’s progress.
