Brando

Brando took his Freedom Flight on July 5th, 2020. Thank you to all of his Foster From Afar donors for helping us change his life forever.

Within the first two months of 2020, Puerto Rico was rocked by more than 2,000 earthquakes. Thousands of families were thrown into crisis and the local shelters were soon overwhelmed with surrendered animals. To save these animals’ lives, The Sato Project coordinated an evacuation of more than 250 dogs and cats from shelters in the hardest hit areas of Puerto Rico to shelter partners on the East Coast. During one of these shelter visits, we met Brando. Sadly, Brando tested positive for heartworm disease, so he was unable to fly. Heartworm is prolific in tropical climates as it is transmitted via mosquito. We could not bear to leave sweet Brando behind. If left untreated, heartworm leads to a long and painful death. So instead, Brando came into our program to receive the treatment he needed - a delicate, tedious process of injections that took months.

Thanks to your support, Brando was able to cross the finish line. Now, this lucky pup has an amazing family in New York City who are dedicated to giving him all the attention he wants. Brando’s parents had recently lost their dog and when they saw him, something tugged at their heart strings and they knew that Brando was the one. As soon as the Mission Possible 11 airplane landed, they were there to welcome this social butterfly with open arms. Now, Brando is enjoying the luxuries of a city slicker just like he deserves.
