Santa

your support as a ‘foster from afar’ will help change this sato’s life forever.

Santa was rescued in Guanica over the summer. After coming into our care, we soon noticed that she was walking awkwardly, with both front legs splayed out in front of her, as if she was doing a strange limbo. We often rescue young dogs with “duck feet” for lack of a scientific term, which is caused by malnutrition / poor development, so we gave Santa a few weeks to see if a proper diet and exercise would help straighten her out. Sadly, it did not, and she seemed to be in pain, so we took her to see our orthopedic specialist. The specialist confirmed she had terrible fractures in both legs—consistent with either being hit by a car or thrown off of a high structure. We were horrified to think that someone could do this to a dog, then leave her to fend for herself with the inability to walk. Santa underwent a double orthopedic surgery and is recovering well. Her care has been long and costly, but we have no regrets saving this special sato’s life and doing everything we can to give her the life she deserves. She still has many weeks of additional care and physical therapy ahead of her before she can be made available for adoption. In the meantime, she would love support from afar to aid in her recovery.

In exchange for any gift of $24 or more, you’ll receive a link to download a special digital postcard and a printable card. You can print the postcard for yourself to show off your foster dog or give the printable card to a loved one as a gift to let them know that a grateful sato was fostered in their honor. We’ll also keep you in the loop of Santa’s progress. Just like an in-person foster, you’ll be one of the first to know when Santa finally completes her recovery and is given the green light to finally take her Freedom Flight and find the family of her dreams.
